Rovaniemi
Rovaniemi sits on the Arctic Circle in Finnish Lapland and is known as the official hometown of Santa Claus. For families, it combines easy-to-reach winter activities with snow-covered forest, from reindeer and husky experiences to Santa Claus Village and Northern Lights viewing on clear, dark nights. Rovaniemi was our base for nine days in March 2026. We also drove to Sweden for an icebreaker cruise, walked a short part of the Karhunkierros trail network in Oulanka National Park, and visited Ranua Wildlife Park. It is an expensive destination, so comparing activity costs and protecting time for free snow days matters.
